Samarin’s fast and mature driving was really impressive. It is not surprising that after two races he is one of the contenders for the gold, even though his rivals include several national champions.

Istok beat Lukoil. The final race of the Championship will be remembered as the most dramatic in the history of Russian races. The pilots were on the brink of foul play, occasionally resembling boxers caught in a cinch.

Ivan was able to not only protect his formula, but also to become one the race leaders. His partner in Istok Art-Line, Victor Shaitar, pulled through in his tracks. By the end of the race, Lukoil’s number 2, Antonov, made another desperate attempt to push Victor Shaitar off the track. This attempt was so crude that cries of indignation were heard from the bleachers. Victor was somehow able to keep the formula on track and finished third, despite a suspension ruined by the Lukoil pilot.

Formula 1600, the apex of Russian closed-circuit racing, is filling the bleachers with faithful fans. This may explain why big business is investing in motorsports more actively. Teams enter Formula 1600 sporting the logos of well-known market leaders, such as Lukoil, MegaFon and Sitronics. This summer Istok, a famous producer of alcoholic beverages, joined their ranks.

Average Lukoil consumers have no idea that the Lukoil team regularly wins national championships and participates in international races. Sitronics is another story. As soon as the concern began sponsoring the Art-Line Engineering team, it immediately started using the image of the formula and racer Tatyana Chuvaeva.
